Museum Docent Opportunity at Milton Historical Society Begins November 4

The Milton Historical Society is seeking both new and long-time residents of the region to serve as museum docents at its LydiaBlackCannonMuseum in historic downtown Milton.  Docents are the museum hosts who welcome visitors and act as guides and interpreters of the exhibit.  Since the museum re-opened in April 2006, more than seventy people have participated in docent training and now volunteer regularly.

The docent training program is a great way to learn about the fascinating history of the area, as well as how to share that knowledge with visitors to the museum. If you are a friendly person who loves meeting new people, learning and sharing, this important volunteer position is for you.

As hosts and guides, docents make an important contribution to the vitality of the museum.  Without docents the museum could not be open on a regularly scheduled basis.  The museum is often the first stop for visitors to Milton, and so the museum docents also help visitors discover all the many other attractions in the town and in the area.

Docents are required to attend a three-session training class, and commit themselves to a minimum of four hours volunteer time per month between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  In addition, they will attend two continuing education events per year and volunteer for a minimum of four hours per quarter in the off seasons.  The next training class begins on November 4, 2017 from 10 am-12:30pm.  Additional dates are November 11 and November 18.  For more information or to sign up for training, call 302-684-1010 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
