Research at the MHS
Have a research question? We are happy to help. Our research policy is as follows:
Research by appointment
We have limited staff and run on volunteer power. To avoid a disappointing experience, we suggest that you schedule an appointment by emailing info@historicmilton.org or calling 302-684-1010.
Research by staff member
It is often better to make your inquiry by letter or email. The first ½hour of research is free. Beyond ½ hour you will be charged at a rate of $20 per ½hour. Please be aware that you may be charged for research time whether or not we are able to locate the information you are researching. You can help reduce costs by providing as much information as possible.
Send your inquiries to info@historicmilton.org or Director, MHS, P.O. Box 112, Milton, DE 19968.
Photocopies
There is a 25 cent/page fee for photocopies, plus shipping and handling. There is a separate fee schedule for reproductions of photographs from the collection.
Prior to your visit, or when making a research inquiry pertaining to family history, please provide the following, if known: first and last names, as well as maiden name, approximate birth and death dates, approximate time living in the area, approximate location where they lived (for example: in town, Harbeson, Cool Spring, etc.). This information is often available through older family members, passports, family documents, passports, bible inscriptions, public records, military records, and U.S. Census records.
